Chinese Zodiac Revelation

I learned something new today. Well, maybe more of realized something new today.
Everytime I go into a chinese restaurant, you see the Chinese Zodiac paper, right?
Being born in 1980, I thought that I was a monkey. In reality, I am a Sheep (or goat or ram depending on the translation). Since my birthday is in January, it actually fell under the jurisdiction of the previous year's chinese zodiac animal (btw, this also applies to Ethan).

I knew the Chinese calendar worked off Moon cycles and their New Year is therefore not the same as the Gregorian Calendar. So imagine my surprise when I read on my own profile here on blogger that I am a Sheep! My belief foundation was shaken. Could I really be a goat? After all, that animal does match the astronomical sign as I am a Capricorn.

Well, you decide which one matches me better: Sheep or Monkey?

Fathers' Day

WARNING, RANT COMING:

Today was my first Fathers' Day. Blah. Don't get me wrong, it is nice being a father and I enjoy the sentiment that everyone shares (thanks to Stef for the nice FD card). Even still, I just can't get over how pathetic it is that we must remind ourselves to appreciate our dads. I didn't call my dad today and I don't feel bad. We had a great time yesterday talking and playing with baby Ethan. And that was not because of fathers day... it was just another day. These made-up Hallmark holidays really bother me. And yes, I feel the same way about mothers's day. Another pile of bull. I just don't see why one (fake, arbitrary) day encompasses these things. Why wait until Mothers or Fathers Day to have a good relationship with those people in your life? Enjoy life as it goes along and then you won't need Fathers' Day to remind you to love your dad.

A commemorative haiku to mark this day:

Fathers Day Has Passed,
Another Fake Holiday.
Time has flown on by.
